Must Love Dogs
Sandy got into dog training because she wanted to make a difference to the lives of animals. She was hooked from her first day and has gone on to earn her COAPE certification in dog training, as well as the Advanced DipCABT: COAPE EMRA Advanced Diploma in Animal Behaviour. She worked as the puppy trainer at Tears Animal Rescue Centre, which is where she met and fell in love with Rosalie, her blind dog. She also works as an assistant trainer at Dog Dynamics Pet Dog Training in Constantia, where she's taught puppy classes, and classes for junior and adult dogs. She has continued training with her own dogs, who have earned different levels in the Canine Good Citizen tests, and who have learnt their fair share of tricks through dog dancing and rally free. Sandy fostered a 14-year-old tripod who blessed her home for two interesting years. He proved that old dogs can learn new tricks, especially the problem-solving kind. Her last puppy had such severe fear problems that she was deemed unadoptable and virtually feral. With a lot of patience, gentleness, and positive reinforcement, the terrified little girl has joined training classes and even has some favourite tricks of her own. All of her special needs dogs have taught Sandy that having a disability need not be as limiting as many people think. This is why she’s chosen to focus on enabling dogs and their humans not only to successfully live together, but also to enjoy various activities, including trick training and agility, and walks on the beach and hikes in the mountains. All training is force-free with an emphasis on having fun with your dog and unlocking their potential.
